“Gorgeous State Park”

We came for two days, winded up spending a week! There is no internet to speak of, no cable TV, and little phone service. What a great way to escape the real world!! I can't wait to go back!

“This is a great park!”

We lived at Joe Wheeler for 9 months while building our house (6miles away). They are constantly doing improvements. Half of "A" area now has 50amp and the park now has WiFi. The Golf Course just reopened after totally renovating the course. The Lodge has a great restaurant, and Rogersville and the surrounding area have some great little local Restaurants also. There is a lot to do in the area for little day trips - Ivy Green (Helen Keller's Home), Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Florence has a ton of things to see and excellent Restaurants (not all chains either). To the other reviewer that was bored - you just have to get out and explore. If you stay in your RV and pout, yes you will be bored - why didn't you just stay home! Please come see our little piece of paradise - there is a lot to see and do in Northern Alabama and the Tennessee Valley. Come see for yourself!

“Not what I'd hoped for”

This is a fairly nice state park with a few issues. Even though it's on the Tennessee river there are just a few sites with even a view of the water, and most are just in the woods. Campground roads are paved but very narrow with nowhere to park other than the campsites. That means boats and other vehicles are along the road, making maneuvering difficult at times. Our camper took up the entire paved site so a rainy day would have been a muddy mess outside. The only place to ride bicycles is on the park roads and traffic sometimes moves pretty fast there. Trails and other areas are nice for scenic walks though. There isn't much else to see in the area either so if you didn't bring a boat you'll get bored pretty quick.
