“Good state park”

We stayed for several nights. Our spot was private even though we were right next to the trail. Everything was clean though after the weekend (we arrived on a Monday) the trash dumpsters were overflowing.
Our last evening there we were treated to the sight of several hot air balloons taking off and flying over our campsite.

“Drunks on Saturday, ticks on Sunday.”

Check in after-hours was time consuming without reservations. Ranger arrived unexpectedly and I was finally checked in after 20 minutes.

I had to wait for the weekend drunks to move their trucks out of the way to pass. The picnic table was sitting in the middle of the pad so I had to get out and move it (200+ #) while the drunks stood watching the entertainment. I decided that the neighbors were just too much to take and called the number to get another space.

Drove slowly while on the phone to see which ones were available and picked one. Oh look! Another picnic table! And more drunks across from me...yay. Backed in and got "You shore did a good job backin' her in!" from the lazy redneck that just sat watching while I manhandled the massive table by myself.

Sunday the party crowd left and I took the dog on a 2.2 mile hike up Prairie Vista and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the great views from the top. There is a bench up there to sit on. Valley of the Giants trail was a good note to finish on Monday morning.

There is a dump and a fresh water station that is thankfully open in April. There is no laundry and no Wi-Fi, but a few OTA stations that came in clear. Cell signal is decent.

This is a nice rustic park with good trails to stretch your legs on. The ticks are aggressive and abundant. Dog picked up several just going out to the tree. I had one try to leave with me in my hair. Eek!

Very nice, very clean, really inexpensive. We pulled in, called the reservation number posted and everything went very smoothly. Because we called same day there was no reservation fee normally charged to out of staters. With electric the total cost tax included was $20.05

“A perfect state park”

Nicely wooded, well-maintained gravel sites, recently upgraded elec service. Friendly staff!
